Brain And Body

Brain And Body

“I’m king. Without my ordering you, you couldn’t accomplish anything whatsoever.” So said the Brain.

“Without arms, hands, fingers, legs, feet, a mouth, teeth, a tongue, a nose, ears, eyes, lungs, a heart, the blood-system, a head, … you too would come to nothing and without us you even couldn’t handle a computer or a robot to serve you. Don’t you be conceited.” So replied the Body:

United they’re sublime! Separated, pityful, wretched!

Was There A Beginning?

Was There A Beginning?

When was the beginning of the universe, of matter, time and space? I thought it was eternal, that there never was a beginning and never an end could be found, of endless time, of limitless, timeless space, of indestructible matter.

But as people started to investigate the oldest elements of the earth they could conjecture the age of the earth when there’s no element older could be found. By the rate of expansion of the universe and knowing its size(?), they could infer, calculate the time when there was zero, no space. Was that the time when the universe was created, when time started to run, or before?

But how could there be a beginning of a universe, of space, of time, of matter, which could be calculated, out of nothing before?

Though Not Pleasing To The Eye But ...

Though Not Pleasing To The Eye But…

I remember some 50 years ago when our little church were collecting money to buy an organ and with difficulty succeeded to gather the money needed. When the new electone organ came, I was disappointed. It was so small and seemed more like a sewing machine, in a polished wooden chest. But when I opened the cover and saw the inside, I saw a wondrous beautiful key board of black and white and in a row all the sound devices in black on a brown background. Then I started to play it and it was even more wonderful to hear its sound which was beyond my imagination.

I was so grateful. That’s so wonderful. And till today I still wish I could exercise my choir, though beginning with untrained, not selected voices of over 50 years, perhaps not pleasing to the eye but charming to the ear as angels sing.

That was what the choir conductor told me.

I'm Closer When They're Far Away

I’m Closer When They’re Far Away

I’m more related to Multatuli and Chuang Tzu when they‘re far, ages away rather than my close, dear friends. But could they stay with me, even within a day, I would get vexed, talking, keep them company. I can’t stand them anymore, seeing, meeting them again and again. So I sincerely, dearly wish them to go to hell soon. Ha, ha.

But being wise, there’s no threat, no fear that they ever would stay with me, so I can breathe freely.
If instead of a wise man, were it a lovely woman, oh would I be so grateful, gladly receive, keep her, talk endlessly as she keeps me company.

Opa Johan Feeling So Sorry

Opa Johan Feeling So Sorry

“Did you go down the stairs just to fetch my parcel? Why didn’t you tell me so? I’m so sorry, so sad to have you do it. Am I not a loving husband to feel so sorry for you? Now kiss me then.” So he whispered and held up his thump.

The Choir Conductor's Thoughts On Progress

The Choir Conductor’s Thoughts On Progress

I was downhearted as I think that I’ll never hear Irmgard Seefried, or Jo Vincent anymore, never hear my recordings of my choir again, I can not play my old gramophone, my old tapes erased by time, my book, thoughts not published, when they all would be lost for ever.

But to day all books could come in the internet. There’s even an encyclopaedia that regularly could be updated, all the works of art all the music in the world, even music of days bygone could come to life again in You Tube.

I needn’t buy VCD’s, DVD’s, players, I don’t have to store them and not worry if they get lost, stolen. As I remember that I had to hand-copy the music score before and today, I could just print it free from internet. We now don’t need a photo album anymore.

Some day it would be possible to perform my choir concert live in internet. I don’t need to invite my friends, or record this on DVD or send them home.

With Google Earth who then would have a better telescope than the Hubble of today we could sail the river Seine or tour in Alaska, without travelling, … that all could be done by internet but suppose that’s still not possible, I could just travel even better in my mind.

What a progress, It’s amazing. Now am I happy again, there’s almost nothing to worry. What a lot I can do, enjoy in the future.

Am So Grateful

Am So Grateful

There’s a lot of things professors, scholars, masters teach, say, make you into believing, which you should take with a grain of salt. My examination paper - I had other thoughts -, were not my thoughts but of the professor whom I should follow to have his approval. My singing teacher said that “du” means Jesus instead of ”my lover” in “Bist du bei mir”. The methods in a book on good Volley Ball playing and methods of an international, qualified Volley Ball coach are very dreary, not very useful, some times stupid, very much ado about nothing and just fit for wasting your time. People look up to important, famous people in aw, and hold them in high regard as though they are Gods who could decide about what is true, what is right, what is false.

But I, as I think of Hans Andersen, O. Henry, Tsau Sjue Tsjin and Kau O, Multatuli, Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Schumann, Schubert, Gershwin, Elly Ameling, Jo Vincent, Sarah Brightman and many more, am I more impressed and so grateful for what they had given me.
