Ailments, Troubles Of Old Age

Ailments, Troubles Of Old Age

"What’s a million dollars? A gift for the poor. Give me brains,  eyes, ears, arms, legs, ... that’s what I call a gift.” Something like that I said then, do you remember? And now I give myself a gift since I got back my legs as they do not hurt me anymore when I walk.

For many years, I’ve tried a lot, but it was in vain, you know? Only by chance, as I bow as low I can and then stand upright again, was I surprised, so happy. there was almost no pain and can I walk normal, not bend again.

Now, before they would hurt, I practice bowing and standing upright, anytime, anywhere, before I start walking. It doesn’t take a minute. I don’t wait till the pain returns, just as I exercized regularly and not wait till my asthma attacks me.

It costs me nothing except not to be reluctant, ashamed to do it. Besides I don’t dismiss my other exercizes.

So now, congratulate me, your husband. Don’t you be stressed anymore seeing me walking bend, you big, stupid pig, fool. Ha. Ha. So said Opa Johan.

With Money A Man Is Easy-(ier) To Handle

With Money A Man Is Easy-(ier) To Handle

“Handle one man is more difficult than ten oxen” said my grandfather then. And I remember that even a dog could be trained to handle a flock of sheep.
Give him money and a man is easy-(ier) to handle. Ha. Ha.

The Anonymous Benefactor

The Anonymous Benefactor

“Were someone to say to day: “I am the Christ that is risen from the dead” and he shows his wounds of the crucifixion, the wonders he could perform to heal the sick, awaken the dead, though the world would believe, I don’t. He’s a scoundrel.  Ha. Ha.” So said Pak Arif to me.

“But I would recognize a Christ in the guise of a man, who has no address and just having his lodging beneath some bridge, somewhere. He has no followers as he doesn’t want them to find, follow, worship him or give them the chance to say ‘thank you’. He is a silent, anonymous benefactor.”

“Yet” he said, “were there a sinner, wrong-doer, criminal who doesn’t hide himself or run away and not repent his punishment, he is honorable. He doesn’t evade, ask pardon but takes responsibility for what he has done.”

My Little Angel

My Little Angel

I could hear this a hundred times. And she sang just the way she can, my little angel, not the way educated singers were taught.

Play it softly. Hear a nightingale singing in the woods.

This is a beautiful line of Mascagni.

So said my Choir Conductor.

Quarrels Of Old Age

Quarrels Of Old Age

“Why are you so angry when I can’t get what you’re saying, you devil. Am I angry when you don’t grasp what I’m saying?”

“No. You never got angry. Ha. Ha.”

She’s such a  dear little devil, though but Opa Johan didn’t say it.

Is There Any Drink As Good As Water?

Is There Any Drink As Good As Water?

Perhaps water at long last, is the best drink, Only  after running the marathon, or  lost in a dessert, so thirsty then, there’s nothing as good as water. And I thought of the rich man, who wanted Lazarus to give him just a drop of water when he was in hell. Water then becomes a heavenly drink,, better than honey, wine, beer, milk, ...

Yet, this is even better: ”But might I of Jove’s nectar sip, I would not change for thine (my lover’s kiss)” says Ben Jonson.

Old Man, One Man Show

Old Man, One Man Show

And there he is the old man, perching on the right side of his theater. He survives, supports himself with his “one man show” street performance. Before, he played beneath a tree and now he has a stage. He’s got imagination, courage.
