The Anonymous Benefactor
“Were someone to say to day: “I am the Christ that is risen
from the dead” and he shows his wounds of the crucifixion, the wonders he
could perform to heal the sick, awaken the dead, though the world would
believe, I don’t. He’s a scoundrel. Ha.
Ha.” So said Pak Arif to me.
“But I would recognize a Christ in the guise of a man, who
has no address and just having his lodging beneath some bridge, somewhere. He
has no followers as he doesn’t want them to find, follow, worship him or give
them the chance to say ‘thank you’. He is a silent, anonymous benefactor.”
“Yet” he said, “were there a sinner, wrong-doer, criminal
who doesn’t hide himself or run away and not repent his punishment, he is
honorable. He doesn’t evade, ask pardon but takes responsibility for what he
has done.”
